McClatchy Video Lab, Washington, D.C.

Social Media Editor, January 2015 - present

  • Finding the best video from 29 McClatchy markets, and packaging it for optimal reach on Facebook.

    • "Packaging" includes editing existing video footage, reporting and producing original videos around timely news topics, creating closed caption files, researching optimal tags, writing promotional text and distributing to social media editors across the company.

  • Researching and disseminating best practices around Facebook Live video for local markets. 

  • Formulated and ran internal experiments around how Facebook native video works; focusing on topics like efficient boosting and audience targeting.

  • Assisted with many early-stage activities associated with the Video Lab's start-up nature, such as designing and maintaining our website and developing project-based social campaigns for McClatchy's D.C. Bureau.

  • Selected to participate in McClatchy's first two-week Design Thinking incubator led by the Stanford d.school in June 2015. I was also part of a four-person team that was selected to compete in a second internal incubator in May 2016, our team was among the top three in the McClatchy Company.

Center for Public Integrity, Washington, D.C.

Engagement Editor, July 2013 - December 2014

  • Managed online production and promotion of long-term investigations, leading the organization on everything from digital-first writing and reporting, to best social media practices.

  • Synthesized social media and web traffic analytics to represent the impact of grant-funded reporting projects. 

  • Worked as part of a four-person digital team whose efforts were recognized with the Online News Association's 2014 award for General Excellence in a small newsroom; produced the 'Breathless and Burdened' investigation by Chris Hamby, which was recognized with the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting.
